Force Field Analysis

Purpose:

Change is a difficult process for many people. Instead of changing and exploring new opportunities, many individuals prefer the comfort of a routine. This learning module will provide the user with an opportunity to create an Action Plan for change.

A force field analysis is a generic process for analyzing elements to accomplish a goal. This is done through identifying a goal and analyzing events, actions, or circumstances that are barriers to reaching this goal or that support you in attaining this goal. In this learning module, you will be working through a three-step process to complete a force field analysis.

Step 1: The individual or group members clearly identify their collaborative goal and then, identifies those events, actions, or circumstances that are barriers to reaching this goal, as well as those events, actions, or circumstances that support attaining this goal or make it worthwhile attempting.

Step 2: The individual or group members identify the most critical barriers and supportive circumstances.

Step 3: The user individual or group members develop an Action Plan for change.
